Court issues bench warrant for arrest of businessman

Asamankese, Nov. 25, GNA - The Asamankese Circuit Court had issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Awal Yakubu who was facing a charge of defrauding by false pretences.

Yakubu was granted court bail of GH¢ 10,000 with one surety to re-appear on November 23 but neither he nor the man who stood surety for him was in court, hence the issuance of the bench warrant for his arrest. The prosecution said on April 05 at Akwatia, Awal obtained GH¢ 9,5= 00 from Nelson Amankwa Ampofo, the complainant, whom Awal promised to give an excavator machine to rent.

The complainant is a small-scale gold miner resident at Akwatia whil= e the accused is a businessman based in Accra.

The prosecution said through the false representation, Yakubu succee= ded in collecting the money from Ampofo, who was in need of an excavator mach= ine to hire for use on his gold concession at Asikam near Kyebi. Prosecution said Ampofo discussed the plans with his brother-in-law who introduced him to Yakubu as the person who could be of help to acquire th= e excavator. He said Yakubu, after collecting the money, promised Ampofo that he would provide the machine within four days and left for Accra to bring th= e excavator but failed to do so and all efforts to contact him proved futil= e. Upon his personal enquiries, Ampofo got to know that Yakubu was hidi= ng at Achimota. On May 05, Ampofo informed the police and later led them to arrest Yakubu from his hide-out. 25 Nov. 09
