Court imposes fine on two drivers

Awutu, C/R) April 15, GNA- A district magistrate's court at Awutu in the Central Region, on Tuesday imposed a total fine of 1,500 Ghana Cedis on two drivers for committing traffic offences.

John Ahiadu, who pleaded guilty to three counts of careless and inconsiderate driving, negligently causing harm and driving a heavy duty vehicle, was fined 900 Ghana Cedis, in default, he would go to prison for One year in hard labour.

Henry Ofori, who also pleaded guilty to failure to obey police signal to stop, was ordered to pay 600 Ghana Cedis fine or in default he would go to prison for Six months in hard labour.

Ofori was also barred from driving for Six months from April 14, 2008. Police Chief Inspector Helena Aidoo, told the court presided over by Mr Kofi Ahiabor that on June 9, last year, Ahiadu, who was driving the vehicle with registration number GR 2982 X without due attention caused the vehicle to ran over the foot of the drivers' mate, Greshon Nukpenu.

Prosecution said on April 13, this year, the police at a barrier stopped Ofori, who was driving a vehicle with registration number GW 9443 Y on the Winneba-Kasoa trunk road, for routine check.

Police Inspector Aidoo said after the check, the driver sped off, nearly crashing the police barrier.
