Court grants bail for running amok

Breman Asikuma (C/R), March 5, GNA - Breman Asikuma District magistrate court on Tuesday granted Kwame Nyame 10 million cedis bail for allegedly destroying property and causing harm. Nyame, a 30-year-old driver and a native of Breman Fosuansa but lives in Accra plea was not taken and will re-appear in court on March 28,2006.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector J.A. Naduetey told the court presided over by Mr Asmah that, on the December 14, 2005, the Breman Asikuma police were on their usual patrols at about 2300 hours, spotted the accused with two cutlasses and was very furious and being followed by some people.

He said the police then stopped to arrest the situation, but the accused managed to slash the mirror of the police vehicle. With the help of the citizens he was over powered after five hours. Chief Naduety told the court that before he was arrested he had inflicted cutlass wounds on Kobina Gyan, Kweku Kweanu and Kwesi Asante, and had destroyed properties including electrical wires, street light bulbs, kiosk and Kwesi Asante car's windscreen. He said the accused had also been badly beaten, for which he was admitted at our lady of Grace Hospital Breman Asikuma under police guard, but later referred to the Ankaful Mental Hospital.
