Court defers sentence of security man

An Accra Circuit Court has deferred the sentencing of Sulley Iddrisu, a security man, charged for unlawful entry.

Sulley was convicted on his own plea and remanded by the Court to reappear on August 20 for sentencing.

The convict also pleaded not guilty to additional charges of conspiracy to commit crime and stealing.

Meanwhile, the Court has also remanded Abdulai Mutawakilo, for a similar offence and Nii Okai, for robbery.

Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Patience Mario told the Court that the complainant in the case is a trader.

She said the complainant deals in stationary and has his shop located at Cowlane, where he rented a warehouse and hired Sulley as his private security to guard the warehouse for safekeeping of the goods.

She said on June 4, the complainant travelled outside Accra and on his return on June 9, he detected that the warehouse was broken into.

The Prosecution said the complainant suspected the convict might have committed the crime and thereafter reported to the police for his arrest.

“On his arrest, he admitted the offence and mentioned Abdulai as his accomplice and stated that among other things that they broke into the warehouse and made away with boxes of stationary,” he added.

DSP Mario said when Abdulai had information that the convict was arrested, he went into hiding in his hometown in the Northern Region.

The prosecution said when the police had the information, a wireless message was sent to Gambaga police and he was subsequently arrested and brought back to Accra to assist in investigation.

She said the convict identified Nii, saying on July 8, he was sending the boxes of stationary out to sell when Nii and four others now at large, attacked him and forcibly collected the goods.
