Couple in Court for stealing baby

Ho, Jun. 27, GNA - Veronica Avumey and Agabdome Mensah, a couple from Akrofu Xeviofe in the Ho Municipality, have appeared before a Ho Circuit Court for stealing a one and a half year old baby girl. The couple pleaded not guilty and would reappear before the court on July 12 this year.

Prosecuting Police Inspector Emmanuel Okudjeto told the Court, presided over by Mr Emmanuel Siammeh, that on September 8 last year, Veronica Avumeyi asked her neighbour, Mrs Evelyn Hedzro, mother of the stolen baby, to leave the child in her care while Evelyn left to gather firewood from the farm.

He said Mrs Hedzro returned two hours later, only to be told by the accused that her baby was missing. Inspector Okudjeto said Mrs Hedzro reported the incident to elders of the town, as Avumey was relaxing unconcerned in the arms of her husband.

He said that Mrs Hedzro later reported to the Police after the elders had searched to no avail.
