Carpenter jailed three years for assaulting Police Sergeant

Accra, Dec. 21, GNA - An Accra Regional Tribunal on Thursday sentenced a carpenter to three years' imprisonment with hard labour for throwing a stone at a Police Detective Sergeant. It hit his face. Raymond Dodo rpt. Dodo, alias Eric Nyarko, pleaded guilty and Mr Justice Kwadwo Owusu, who presided, convicted and sentenced him accordingly.

The Prosecuting, Police Detective Chief Inspector Mary Agbozo told the Tribunal that on December 7, 2006, Detective Sergeant Yaw Djan of the East Legon Police Station went to a "Space to Space" operator opposite the Police Station to make a call. She said the convict also came to make a call but there was a misunderstanding on who should be the first to make his call. Chief Inspector Agbozo said the Operator of the "Space to Space" gave the mobile phone to Dodo to try if his call could go through, but Sergeant Djan was not happy about what the Operator did. She said not satisfied with what transpired, Dodo insulted the Police Officer and warned that he would harm him. Dodo threw a pavement block at the Police Officer and it hit his face. The convict then took to his heels, but he was chased and arrested.
