Cane Weaver remanded for robbery

A cane weaver who allegedly stripped a taxi driver naked after hijacking his cab, a mobile phone and his daily sales, has appeared before an Accra Circuit Court.

Isaac Donkor charged with robbery has pleaded not guilty.

The Court presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh remanded him into lawful custody and he is to reappear on November 25.

Chief Superintendent of Police Duuti Tuaruka told the Court that investigations were ongoing as the vehicle in question has not been found by the Police.

Prosecution said the complainant is a driver and resides at Nii Boi Town, while the accused live at Kokomba market.

He said on July 11 the accused boarded the complainant’s Nissan taxi from the Vodafone office at Kwame Nkrumah Circle to the Sakaman Blue lagoon area.

Chief Superintendent Tuaruka said on reaching a spot at Sakaman Blue Lagoon, the accused asked the complainant to stop so that he could collect money from his brother to pay him (the complainant).

He said when the complainant stopped, Donkor pulled out a gun and ordered the complainant to surrender his Samsung mobile phone, his daily sales and stripped him naked.

Chief Superintendent Tuaruka said Donkor then sped away with the complainant’s vehicle whiles the complainant reported the matter to the Police at Odorkor.

He said subsequent investigations led to the arrest of Donkor at his hideout.
