Barber sentenced 15 years by a Kumasi Circuit Court

Kumasi, Sept. 1, GNA - Ato Kwamena, a barber in Kumasi, who robbed a trader and inflicted cutlass wounds on her, has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by a Kumasi Circuit Court.

Kwamena pleaded guilty to the offence.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Regina Addo-Yobo told the court presided over by Mr Justice D.W.P.Amedior, that Hagar Nyamekye, victim and her husband deal in mobile phone recharge cards at Ayigya, a Kumasi suburb where Kwamena also lives.

On August 6, 2010, at about 2100 hours, whiles complainant and her children were asleep, Kwamena took advantage of the absence of her husband, who had traveled, disguising himself with a face mask and armed with a cutlass, broke into their room.

The complainant rudely woken from her sleep by an unusual noise saw Kwamena with a masked face stealing the cards.

Instinctively, she raised an alarm which angered Kwamena and in the process of struggling with the victim, he inflicted cutlass wounds on her left hand and bolted leaving the face mask and his pair of footwear behind.

A complaint was then made to the police and on August 15, investigation led to his arrest.

He admitted to the offence in his caution statement.
