An Accra Circuit Court on Wednesday handed a 20 year jail term to Alfred Nyarko for having sex with a seven year old girl at a barbering shop in Gbawe, Accra.

Nyarko aka Ogyam, a 28- year- old barber, who kept the victim’s pant in a drawer after defiling her, pleaded guilty to defilement.

He was therefore convicted on his own plea and sentenced accordingly.

The case as presented by the Prosecutor Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sarah Acquah is that the complainant, Matilda Marfo is mother of the victim.

The complainant, the prosecutor said, lives with the victim at New Gbawe, near Mallam in Accra. The convict also resides in the same vicinity.

ASP Sarah Acquah said on June 8, at about 1600 hours while the victim was returning from school, Nyarko called her into his shop and had sexual intercourse with her.

Prosecution said a five- year- old girl saw Nyarko and the victim in the act through the shop window and informed the victim’s mother.

The victim’s mother and a witness proceeded to the scene and found the victim and the convict naked at the shop.

When the victim was quizzed, she let the cat out of the bag, adding that Nyarko had kept his panty in a drawer and locked it.

ASP Acquah said Nyarko sensing danger, took to his heels but was nabbed by the neighbours and handed over to the Police.

Prosecution said the Police issued a medical form to the victim to attend hospital so she could be examined and treated.

When the medical report was handed over to the Police, it indicated that the victim had been defiled.
