Barber fined 1.2 million cedis for stealing mobile phone

Tema, Dec. 24, GNA - A barber at Tema Community One has been sentenced to a fine of 1.2 million cedis by the tema circuit Court 'A' for stealing a mobile phone from a friend's house. Abubakari Ali, who pleaded guilty to stealing, will go to prison for 18 months in default.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Adolphus Otchere told the court presided over by Mr Charles Asiedu that, on October 16, 2004, at about 1430 hours, the accused visited the complainant's sick father in his house at Ashaiman Middle East.

He said when the accused was leaving he stole an Ericsson mobile phone which was being charge.

On October 26, the accused was seen in the same area and was arrested and handed over to police. In his cautioned statement, accused admitted the offence and said he pledged the phone for 350,000 cedis to a man at Ashaiman.

Inspector Otchere said the accused led the police to the house of the man, but he could not be traced.
