Armed Robber Dies In Shoot-Out With Police

A suspected armed robber died in a shoot-out with police on the Tamale-Walewale road when three armed men attacked a Bawku-bound bus from Accra at about 2.00 am on Saturday.

A female passenger identified as Nafisa Mustapha, was also found dead in the vehicle after the incident, believed to have been shot by the robbers, a police source told the Times.

The highway men reportedly opened fire on the approach of the police patrol men and damaged the windscreen of the patrol vehicle.

But one of them fell in the ensuing exchange of fire, according to the source and the police retrieved one AK 47 rifle with eight rounds of live ammunition. The other two robbers managed to escape into the nearby bush.

The source said the fleeing highway men made away with unspecified amounts of money in cedis and CFA France seized from the passengers before the police arrived on the scene.
