An ex-seaman arrested with cocaine at Dabala

Dabala, June 13, GNA - Kweku Essuman 54, an ex-seaman was on Tuesday arrested by officials of Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) at the Preventive Operational Duty Point at Dabala with five kilogrammes of a whitish substance suspected to be cocaine. Mr Ben Suuri, Chief Collector of CEPS in-charge of the Duty Point told GNA that Essuman, arrived at the point at about 1330 hours in a car form Aflao and asked to submit a school bag around his neck for examination.

He said Essuman resisted saying it contained jewellery but when the personnel opened it they found four compressed parcels of whitish substance suspected to be cocaine concealed in it. Mr Suuri said Essuman during interrogation told CEPS personnel that a certain man at Kaneshie in Accra asked him to collect the parcel from another man whom he identified through descriptions given to him in Accra.

He said Essuman and the driver had been sent to Aflao for further investigations.

Mr Suuri said the street value of the substance was not known and would be sent to the forensic laboratory for verification.
