Yaw Anokye Frimpong Yaw Anokye Frimpong

Even before the fate of Yaw Anokye Frimpong, 24, a driver in the ongoing Akwamufie murder case, could be determined by an Accra Central District Magistrate Court, he appears to be in fresh trouble as he is said to have killed two other people.

The accused, who was one of the six persons arrested in connection with the murder of the two African-Americans at Fihankra, near Akwamufie in the Eastern Region, has been arraigned before the court for allegedly murdering one Kwesi Oteng Asamoah.

He is expected to be put before another court over a different murder case.

Anokye, according to the prosecution led by ASP Stephen Adjei, on April 12, 2008 at Abokobi near the Pantang Government Hospital in Accra, caused the death of Asamoah who was the manager of Descent Freight Limited.

Before trial Magistrate Ms Veronique Manfort, the plea of Anokye was not taken and he was remanded into prison custody until August 28, 2015. He is serving jail term over another crime.

Facts

The facts of the case as presented by ASP Adjei are that the accused was resident at Fihankra near Akwamufie in the Eastern Region and that in September 2007 he was engaged as a house help of the deceased.

He said in October the deceased detected theft of his cheaque leaflets and complained to his children, adding that a search by the family showed that Anokye stole them and hid them in his Bible.

ASP Adjei said Asamoah decided to report the incident to the police but Anokye heard of it and escaped from the house.

He said on April 11, 2008 Anokye went to spy on the deceased and hid himself in an uncompleted building until 4:30 pm when Asamoah returned from work, parked his car in the compound but did not secure his door.

The prosecutor said Anokye scaled the wall, opened the car and entered its boot unnoticed and that “later in the evening the owner of the vehicle moved it into the garage and the family went to bed.”

The police officer further stated that Anokye, who knew the house of the deceased very well, on April 12, 2008, entered the kitchen and picked a wooden crossbar.

Attack

ASP Adjei stated that the accused, armed with the implement, mentioned the name of the deceased and “as soon as he opened his door, Anokye struck him with the bar and dragged him back into his room.”

He said Asamoah, who sustained deep injuries, bled profusely and Anokye tied him with a cable and left him to his fate.

The prosecutor indicated that the accused searched the room of Asamoah and stole a pump action gun, GH¢930, Nokia N97 phone and a DVD player, after which the accused took his bath in the house, changed into the dress of the deceased and left.

ASP Adjei said a report was then made to the Adenta police and Anokye, who was arrested in connection with the murder at Akwamufie, confessed to killing Asamoah.
