Three persons – a driver and his two mates – have been arrested by the police in the Brong-Ahafo Region for allegedly dumping a dead man, who reportedly died in their vehicle, in a cemetery and running away.

Kwaku Adjei, the driver; George Amankwaa and Douglas Atta Asare, his mates, have since been granted bail and are helping in investigations.

The trio, according to the Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Christopher Tawiah, was travelling with a Kia truck with registration number BA 731-13, loaded with building materials from Berekum to Sampa on May 23.

ASP Tawiah told DAILY GUIDE that when the driver and his mates were heading to Sampa around 12:30 pm, they came across Gordon Kofi Osei, 45, who asked for a ride.

He said because the truck was fully loaded, they asked him to sit on the goods in the bucket of the truck. Along the way at Botokrom, which is between Berekum and Drobo, a metal gate in the truck slipped together with the man and fell on him on the ground, killing him instantly.

ASP Tawiah said out of ignorance and fear, the suspects dumped the deceased on a footpath leading to the cemetery and drove off.

DAILY GUIDE’s checks revealed that when the suspects attempted to escape from the scene at top speed, their vehicle had an accident, but they managed to vanish from the accident scene.

The driver and one of his mates, Douglas Atta Asare, later in the day, reported themselves to the Drobo police where they were arrested, leading to the arrest of the other suspect.

The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the St Mary’s Hospital at Drobo pending autopsy.

Meanwhile, the father of the deceased is suspecting a foul play, claiming that his son was killed and dumped at the cemetery.
