30 year old unemployed imprisoned for attempted rape

Techiman, (B/A), Sept. 29, GNA-- A 30-year-old unemployed Kofi Poku, has been convicted on two counts of attempted rape and assault and sentenced to six months imprisonment on each count to run concurrently by a Techiman circuit tribunal.

The accused who pleaded not guilty has been ordered to pay 100,000 cedis to the victim as compensation. Assistant superintendent of police (ASP) E.A. Yendawk (ed correct) in-charge of Techiman district, prosecuting told the tribunal chaired by Mr Justice Nicholas Abodakpi that Poku went to Atta's bar on August eight to drink.

He said after drinking, the accused laid on a mat and pretended to be asleep. ASP Yendaw said when Poku was woken up to go home, he held Ataa and tore her dresses. He said while Ataa was crying for help, Poku hit her on the mouth thus breaking a tooth.

He also bit her fingers when she was resisting being stripped naked. Passing sentence, Mr Adobakpi said the prosecution has proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.
