Takoradi NHIS begins photo-taking exercise.

Takoradi, June 22, GNA - The Takoradi sub-metropolitan office of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has started the photo taking exercise and would issue members with identity cards (ID) on June 28, Mr Kingsley Mensah, Scheme Manager, told the GNA in an interview at Takoradi on Wednesday.

Mr Mensah said the exercise began on June 17 and is expected to be completed on June 25 for the Amanful West, Amanful East, Chapel Hill, Essikafoambantem Numbers one and two, Adakope, Apollo and Dupaul electoral areas. The second phase would cover Cassava Farm, Presby, Railway and Harbour quarters, Zenith, Beach Road, New Takoradi and Airport ridge electoral areas between June 27-July 2.

Sabon and Sofo Zongos, Kwesiministim, Asakae, Apremdo and Sawmill electoral areas would also benefit from the exercise between July 5 and July 16 this year. He said the photographs cost 10,000 cedis per individual and so far 256 adults out of the expected figure of 16,000 have taken their pictures.

Mr Mensah said by July 5, those with their ID cards would be provided with a hospital attendance cards. He said the success of the NHIS could be realised if Ghanaians take the scheme seriously registered and took their photographs and appealed to workers in the formal sector to register.
