Speaker to hold Breakfast forum today; focus on Mining sector

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye will host a Speaker’s forum on Tuesday November 14, 2017 to give Parliament the opportunity to interact with key stakeholders on various policy implementations.

The meeting themed “Challenges in the Gold Mining Sector and the lesson for the Oil and Gas Industry; Implications for Policy in Ghana” is in collaboration with Ghana Oil & Gas for Inclusive Growth (GOGIG).

A press release, signed by the Acting Director of Public Affair of the Parliament of Ghana, Ms Kate Addo, stated that the forum is to provide an opportunity for CSOs to engage Parliament on Key Policy, Regulatory issues and Key Community concerns regarding the Extractive Industry; information on key sector issues particularly on Mining and Oil and Gas explosion as well as engage key stakeholders in the sector on pertinent issues and concerns on Extractive Industry.

The Speaker’s Breakfast Forum which is expected to set the pace for further discussions on the matter will “require active and well-resourced Parliamentarians who understand the sector well enough to analyze and better interrogate policies, legislations and contracts before ratification,” the document revealed.
