Plot To Kill MP -President, Veep, Interior Minister alerted

An alleged plot by some supporters and activists of the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to assassinate the sitting MP, Mrs. Eugenie Kusi, has been uncovered by the Independent.

The alleged assassination plot, according to a petition sent to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) by the MP under the heading, ?Application for police protection is being masterminded by one Osei Boamah a.k.a Kofi Africana, a druggist and former executive member of the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency branch of the NPP.

The petition which was written on March 27, 2004 was copied to the President, the Vice President, the Minister of Interior and the Chief of Staff at the Office of the President. ?My wife has been in danger because of the clandestine moves of my political opponents to get me assassinated. It is the general public perception that Mr Osei Boamah, who has sworn in public to get me removed as the MP, by any means possible is leading a pack of crooks to get me assassinated so that there will be a bye elections before next December general elections?, the MP noted.

According to the petition, some former executive members of the NPP and other Assembly members of the NPP and other Assembly members of the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency branch of the NPP are supporting the alleged assassination plot. After intense investigations this reporter gathered that in their bid to have the ?Operation Eliminate MP Kusi? smoothly executed, the alleged assassins tried, albeit unsuccessfully, to solicit the collaboration of the MP?s driver, one Godfred Boateng.

But Godfred Boateng, our findings established, remained resolute in his commitment to his boss by leaking the alleged plot to her and other top members of the NPP hierarchy in the Tarkwa Nsueam Constituency. The Independent gathered from investigations that the MP?s problems started moments after majority of the polling station chairmen of the NPP in the constituency declared their unflinching support for Mrs. Kusi to go for a second term in the December general elections. The open declaration for the sitting MP, according to snippets of information pieced together, momentarily, polarized the Tarkwa Nsueam Constituency of the NPP.

So while the polling station chairmen support the incumbent MP, the other group comprising former constituency executives and some Assembly members threw in the lot with a professional accountant, Samuel Ekow Otchere, who is the sole candidate challenging Hon Kusi in the Tarkwa Nsuaem primaries of the NPP.
