Recall sacked workers - GJA to TV3

Ghana Journalists Association has asked the management of TV3 Network to recall sacked workers Ghana Journalists Association has asked the management of TV3 Network to recall sacked workers

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has asked the management of TV3 Network to immediately recall scores of workers it has dismissed for protesting in connection with stalled end of service benefit negotiations.

A statement issued in Accra by the GJA, signed by its president Affail Monney, found TV3 management’s justification for the dismissals as “lame, capricious and highly unacceptable”.

It added that the workers deserve to be treated with utmost respect and sensitivity and not the high handedness which has characterised industrial relations in TV3.

The GJA has pledged to promptly rally to the defence of all media workers who are unjustifiably treated by management.

On Tuesday, 28 February, 32 technical, editorial, marketing, and library staff of the station were summarily dismissed by management for “wearing” red attire which, according to management, disturbed the peaceful labour environment within the media house’s premises.

Their dismissal followed a query letter sent to them asking that they explain why they wore red to work at the same time.

In Ghana’s labour environment, wearing red signals discontentment and warning to agitate for better welfare.
