Civil Servants urged to work for national progress

Sunyani, Jan 31, GNA - Nana Kwadwo Seinti, Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, has cautioned Civil Servants against practices that can derail national progress.

Speaking at an end of year party for the staff of the Regional Coordinating Council, he urged them to redouble their efforts and to avoid past mistakes in the own interest and for the progress of the nation.

He warned them to desist from "leaking vital information to some people even before it is made public," saying, such acts did not augur well for national development.

"There have been occasions when some people have confronted me over issues that are within the corridors of my office and how such people got the information I found it hard to understand," Nana Seinti added. He advised them to be guided by the oath of secrecy as Civil Servants and to be committed to their work.

The Regional Minister urged them to eschew lateness, idling during working hours and gossiping and to be disciplined in the discharge of their duties.

"We need to work to ensure success and prosperity of the nation so that we can also enjoy personal prosperous lives, since we are building Ghana for prosperity", he said.

Mr Yaw Adjei Duffour, Deputy Regional Minister, warned the staff against what he called "the unholy solidarity" among them, which encouraged the perpetuation of acts detrimental for smooth administration.

"The 'solidarity' among you has increased lateness, apathy to work and other negative practices amongst you and I urge you to turn a new leaf and be dedicated to your work," he said.

The Deputy Minister, however, advised them to unite "so that collectively we can reap the full benefits of our labour". Mr Francis Boateng, Director of the Regional Coordinating Council, urged the staff to avoid partisan politics "because as Civil Servants we are not supposed to glaringly identify ourselves with any political party".

"All you need to do is to register when the Voters Register is re-opened so that you can exercise your franchise during elections," he added and urged them to maintain cordial relations to accelerate development.

Fourteen members of staff, seven of them on transfer and retirement and seven other people were honoured.

Mr Ibrahim Chiterebergu, Chief Watchman, Mr Maxwell Kuma, Driver, Mr Peter Boampong, Steward, Madam Agnes Adoma, Labourer, Mr Obeng Kennedy, Inspector Grade One, Mr Peter Owusu, Senior Typist and Madam Patience Larbi, Senior Telephonist were honoured for hard work.
