Worst agric performance seen under Mahama – Akufo-Addo

Under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, the agriculture sector in Ghana has recorded the worst performance in the history of the country, recording 0.04 per cent as stated in last year’s national budget, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said.

According to him, this trend is not a good sign for the sector going forward as a country, therefore, it must be changed at the ballot as Ghana goes to the polls this year to elect a new president and members of parliament.

From 6.2 percent in 2009, performance of the sector dropped to 0.04 per cent last year – a situation government blamed on negative growth in the crops sub-sector, despite other sub-sectors like livestock and fishing recording growth.

Speaking to a gathering in Bechem, the Tano South District capital in the Brong Ahafo region on Friday, July 8 as part of his tour of the region, Mr. Akufo-Addo said the NDC government must be changed following its poor performance in most of the sectors of the economy, especially in agriculture.

“The worst performance of agriculture in our history last year was 0.04% under Mahama’s leadership, we need to change that,” he said.
