Doe Adjaho: Recent attacks on MPs 'worrying'

Speaker of Parliament, Right Hon. Edward Doe Adjaho has decried the rampant attacks on Members of Parliament, describing the trend as worrying.

He made the statement at the commencement of the second meeting of the 6th Parliament on Tuesday as he welcomed members back to the August house.

He cited the killing of MP for Abuakwa North, JB Dankwah Adu and the armed robbery attack on MP for Okere, Dan Kwaku Botwe as examples. He added that leaders of the house are in talks with the security services to provide MPs with around the clock security.

He reiterated that security had been reinforced in Parliament to foster the safety and well-being of MPs and other users of the facility.

Member of Parliament for Nadoli and Majority, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin said the security of MPs is dear to the hearts of the leaders of the house.

"We have put up a comprehensive report for the attention of the security agencies to try as much as possible to protect MPs because we have seen that MPs are now a source of security concern.

I heard that the police service has taken it seriously and they will come out with an answer as to whether MPs will be given police personnel to protect them or some measures will be put to sure their residence. "”,

Speaker Doe Ahadjaho also applauded his subjects for the unprecedented attendance recorded on the first day and urged them to keep it up as the House has a chunk of work to be done before the year ends .
