A leading member of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe has condemned the party for making what he described as "fundamental mistake" by appointing Freddie Blay as chairman.

According to the suspended founding member, Mr Blay is the source of the party's internal crisis, noting the party would have no future should he continue to occupy the chairmanship position because Mr Blay does not believe in the party's tradition.

“How can you make such a fundamental mistake in politics and I am talking about Freddie Blay. He has no business whatsoever in the NPP and indeed all our woes are coming from that man, full stop... Until Freddie Blay is kicked out of the NPP, we have no future" Dr Tamakloe told 3FM Wednesday

Mr. Blay was appointed by the party to replace the Chairman, Paul Afoko, who was suspended indefinitely in a unanimous vote by the Party's National Executive Committee on October 23, 2015, at the back of a demand made by the National Council of Elders of the party in September last year.

In a letter, the elders demanded "a thorough investigation into the actions of the National Chairman which clearly constitutes a breach of the party’s constitution, an appropriate recommendation to promote discipline, order, harmony and progress in the party towards the 2016 polls, and at least a suspension of Chairman Afoko from office until after the 2016 elections.”

His suspension received backlash from the ranks and file of the party, with some describing it as unconstitutional, in view of the meeting at which the decision was taken. Mr Afoko is currently in court fighting his suspension.

Speaking to the host of Sunrise, Winston Amoah, on 3FM 92.7 Wednesday, Dr Tamakloe condemned the NPP for deciding to make Mr Blay the chairman of the party because he is a non-believer of the ideals and tradition of the party.

“We have no business whatsoever in bringing somebody who doesn’t believe in our tradition to act as the acting chairman of our party. I find it very difficult to understand it and indeed I have had a lot of serious discussion with a lot of people and even people who don’t even belong in our tradition.

He said Mr Blay belongs to the Convention People's Party, claiming that Mr Blay almost destroyed his party, hence did not understand why NPP would give such a position to him, saying "What is most disturbing is that he belonged to a party [CPP] and made sure the party was almost destroyed.

"Freddie Blay almost destroyed the Convention Peoples Party because I have known that party since I was an infant so how do we bring such a person in our fold. The fact that he destroyed the CPP is there and known to every person and he is coming to do the same thing in the NPP and the worst of it is that he has been placed close to our finances" he stated.
