Lets invest in education- Churcher

Accra, Aug. 22, GNA - Ms Christine Churcher, Minister of State in charge of Basic, Secondary and Girl Child Education, on Friday said the greatest investment that could be made in life is investing in a child's education.

She said education could make or unmake a person and it does not matter where a person is born or what background the person has; education can make a difference in ones' life.

Ms Churcher said this at the launch of the Wingspan Sponsorship and Scholarship for Girls Education in Accra.

Wingspan is an international non-governmental organisation that seeks to sponsor needy but brilliant students in education, health and other basic facilities that a child needed to succeed in life. Ms Churcher said the emphasis on girl child education is not meant to discriminate against the boy child but seeks to bring out the fact that it is more beneficial to educate a girl.

She advised parents to give the best they could to educate their children because every child has the right to good education and parenting.

Ms Adjoa Eva Acquaah-Harrison, Founder of Wingspan International, announced that seven children have been given scholarship to go to school.

Ms Eva Lokko, Director General of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, said children must be encouraged in whatever they do, saying "we should try and build confidence in our children".
