Ghana Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, has rejected claims that members of the team are greedy, arguing that they constantly give back to society hence that assertion cannot be true.

He has thus urged Ghanaians to tone down on their criticisms of the players.

There has been growing perception that the Black Stars players are greedy and mostly interested in enhancing their bank accounts but Gyan rejected the claim. He said they help their community in their own small ways without necessarily making it a big media issue.

Gyan has been actively been giving back to society in recent years, helping the Ghana Heart Foundation and hospitals. He is also planning on constructing an astro turf for Accra Academy where he schooled.

Again, he on Monday presented a cheque for $30,000 to the Black Queens to bring his total contribution to the All Africa Games gold medal winning side to $40,000.

Gyan is particularly satisfied with his spirit of giving given the criticisms over his decision to play his club football in UAE and lately in China.

He said “that is what we are seeing right now, I have been able to give back to the society and that is the most important thing. If they think I went there because of money I give back to the community.

I am doing my job and I make sure I do my job wholeheartedly and help where and when I can.”
