Koforidua will host its first ever major boxing bout on Boxing Day when the biggest contenders on the local scene, Michael Ayittey Powers and Braimah Kamoko a.k.a Bukom Banku, fight in the Eastern regional capital.

The two will face-off in what has been dubbed "Repeat or Revenge" bout which will see the winner go home with a 4X4 vehicle.

And already, both boxers are upbeat about emerging as the winner.

Powers said: “I’m very happy that Bukom Banko has accepted to fight me and given me a chance for a rematch. I want to assure all my fans that I am not scared of facing Banku because I have studied his tactics and strategy and I am very confident of beating him this time. I am well prepared and very positive about a victory on 26th December. “

Banku naturally has a different perspective “Ayitey Powers is very good fighter and should not be underrated, but I am the god of boxing and he’s the Christ. I am a better boxer than Ayitey Powers and I have an upper hand when it comes to jabbing and throwing punches.”

“I haven’t sat in a 4x4 car before, due to that I am poised to defeat Powers in order to win the prize and I believe strongly nothing can stop me. This isn’t a fixed fight as people are of the view, if it were fixed we would end the match in round 4 so that everybody can go home”

Sports authorities in the region are delighted with the bout and hope it will go a long way in boosting interest in the sport there.

“I happy they’re using the Eastern Stadium as the venue. With boxing in the eastern region we have a lot of talents. I know their coming here will bring a promotion of the boxing industry in the region”, Gifty Horsu Fianu, the regional director of the National Sports Authority said.
The bout is being put together by Landmark Promotions with Joy Industries as the main sponsors. Dr. Manfred Takyi, Chief Executive Officer of Joy Industries says the fight will be worth all the hype.
