Assemblies must be well funded to desilt gutters – Joyce Aryee

Executive Director of the Salt and Light Ministries, Rev. Dr Joyce Aryee has appealed to government to invest adequately in the various district assemblies since they are the first port of call in the nationwide effort to keep drainages clean.

According to her, timely disbursement of funds to the assemblies is essential in fighting against the perennial flooding in the country.

“Monies must go into the district assemblies, they have the first charge when it comes to desilting our gutters. The monies must be released to the assemblies and on time too,” she told Bola Ray on Starr Chat Wednesday.

Her comments come on the back of the recent flood and fire disaster that hit Accra last week.

Over 150 people lost their lives in a GOIL fuel station explosion at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra after long hours of a heavy downpour which also flooded the city.

The three days of national mourning for the victims was climax with a state ceremony in Accra today, Wednesday June 10,2015.
