A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has told TV3 that President John Dramani Mahama was awake throughout the night as a result of the torrential rains that resulted in flooding the capital city.

The six-hour downpour on Wednesday, June 3 left most roads in Accra not fordable while many houses were submerged. Property worth millions of Cedis was also lost.

No casualties have been recorded but a concomitant fire outbreak at the Goil Filling Station at Kwame Nkrumah Circle left dozens charred beyond recognition.

Speaking on TV3’s New Day on Thursday, Abraham Amaliba – a member of NDC’s legal team – lauded government’s quick response in deploying security personnel to help in ensuring sanity in town during the chaos that followed the rainfall.

“I am also told the president had been awake all night,” he said.

The perennial flooding in Accra has become a worry with many calling for an attitudinal change and an impression on government to put up facilities that will minimize the effect of the seasonal disaster.
