Tree Global presents cocoa seedlings to farmers

Farmers at Kofi-krom, a farming community at Suyhen in the New Juaben Municipality, have received 10,000 high yielding cocoa seedlings from Tree Global, an international tree nursing company, to improve cocoa production in the area.

The presentation forms part of a project for Tree Global, in collaboration with Mondelez, a cocoa processing company and the largest buyer of Ghana’s cocoa, to present 100,000 high yielding cocoa seedlings to four districts in the region.

Mr Nikos Chronais, the Country Operations Manager of Tree Global explained that, the seedlings were nursed in a recyclable plastic pots which is reusable for 6 years and environmentally friendly.

He urged the farmers to follow the instructions on how to dig the hole, plant and water the seedlings to create the needed impact expected.

Mr Bismark Bekoe, the Chairman of the New Juaben Cocoa Farmer’s Cooperatives and Marketing Union, who received the seedlings on behalf of the farmers, thanked Mondelez and Tree Global for the support.

He noted that, with the new technology in which the seedlings are produced, he had no doubt that it would increase the yields of his members and improve cocoa production in general.
