Portia Boakye saves Queens in Egypt

A first half stunner from Portia Boakye was enough to secure a point for the female senior national team of Ghana, the Black Queens, against their female counterparts of Egypt in the Olympic Games qualifiers.

The Black Queens took the lead early in the game after totally dominating their Egyptian friends, but reports of poor officiating denied the Queens a complete win, surrendering the lead to the Egyptians who equalized in the second half.

Portia connected very well with Mercy Myles after Jane Ayieyam had looped the ball to the latter on the left side of the Egyptian defence, who located the free-scoring Portia who placed the ball with a drive that the Egyptian goalie could do nothing to stop from entering the net.

Portia, who plays for Fabulous Ladies, already has two goals in the National Women’s League which ended a few days ago and is hoping to score more for the Queens in the absence of Samira Suleiman and Linda Eshun, both of Hasaacas Ladies.

The Egyptians are expected to be in Ghana for the second leg on the 30th of May to decide who makes it to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro.
