Ga Council snubs Police over ‘dumsor’ vigil meeting

The Ga Traditional Council today, Tuesday May 12 2015, failed to turn up for a planned meeting between them, the Police and organisers of the celebrity vigil against the power crisis in the country.

The Council had petitioned the Police to stop the vigil with reason that the peaceful gathering coincides with the Council’s annual ban on drumming and noise making, which always precedes the Homowo festival.

Spokesperson of the Ga Traditional Council Nii Tackie Commey told Fiifi Banson on the maiden edition of the Anopa Kasapa morning show on the EIB Network’s newly-branded mass market staple Kasapa 102.3fm that the traditional leaders want the event cancelled because it could turn noisy contrary to the peaceful manner in which the organisers wish it goes.

However, spokesperson for the Accra region Police ASP Afia Tenge told Starr News the traditional leaders refused to show up at the police headquarters where the meeting was scheduled to take place.

Three celebrities – Yvonne Nelson, Lydia Forson and Sarkodie – are spearheading the watch night service aimed at putting pressure on the John Mahama-led administration to address the blackout that has plagued Ghana for the past three years.
