Nana Addo’s bodyguards frustrating bailiff from serving writ - Inside Ghana

Bodyguards of Nana Akufo-Addo are preventing a bailiff from serving the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer with a writ over his alleged usage of state-owned vehicles after leaving office, Inside Ghana alleges.

Two members of the pressure group have sued the three-time flagbearer of the main opposition party for failing to pay the sum of Ghc798, 000 for the 19 months that he used two state vehicles when he was no longer a public officer.

The plaintiffs in the case are Alex Doe and George Spencer Quaye. They filed the suit at an Accra High Court on Wednesday April 8, 2015.

Speaking to Starrfmonline.com on Monday, Quaye said the security of the former foreign affairs minister are frustrating the bailiff, Joshua Odamptey, in an attempt to throw out the case.

However, the head of security of the flagbearer, Captain (rtd) Edmund Kojo Koda, has denied the claims.

“He came to the office and told me he has been to the house and has been told Nana Addo wasn’t in the house so he came to the office… nobody prevented him from going anywhere. I received him in the office and whatever is left he will be able to tell you what happened. Go and talk to the bailiff himself,” Koda told Starr News.

Inside Ghana is praying the Court to compel the former Attorney General to cough up the said fee for the entire period for which he used the two four-wheelers after leaving office in 2007 to pursue his presidential ambition.

“The said vehicles are: a Nissan Patrol with registration number GT 5621 T and a Toyota Land Cruiser GT 1983 X. Documents available to Inside Ghana indicate the vehicles were returned in a bad state with the Nissan Patrol having a battery discharge problem while the Toyota Land Cruiser had faulty starter brushes, which were both repaired at the expense of the taxpayer.

“We are therefore by this press release urging him to settle the above mentioned amount to the State as cost for keeping (hiring) the 2 vehicles at a cost of $200/day for each vehicle for 19 months at an exchange rate of GHS 3.5,” the group said in a statement.
