Mahama must resign over ‘dumsor’ - Isaac Osei

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP for Subin Isaac Osei has suggested to President John Dramani Mahama to go south since he is bereft of ideas to solve the worsening power crisis.

Ghana is going through staid energy crisis due to production shortfall as a result of lack of gas from the West Africa Gas Pipeline in Nigeria to power some thermal plants in the country to supplant production.

Also the country’s three hydro-electric power stations: Akosombo, Bui and Kpong are not running at their full capacity due to low hydrology. The main opposition hit the streets with a huge crowd on Wednesday to register their displeasure.

Osei, a former Ghana High Commissioner to the UK under the Kufuor administration, believes it is about time the Mahama-led administration gave way to the opposition to solve the problem.

“The business of government is to run the affairs of the country, and if the government is incapable of doing so they should say so,” an incensed Osei told Starr News. “If they cannot do so and now you are crying for the opposition to give you ideas to run the country; have you ever heard this anywhere before, if they want to know what to do they should look at the last six months of how Kufuor handled it.”

He added: “Four years of Dumsor, this is terrible, companies are collapsing, people are being sacked from their workplaces, why, what have we done to John Mahama to deserve this situation and then you come and tell us that you are not giving us any alternatives. If you have no ideas then step down and let the opposition come and take over.”

Meanwhile, the NPP has expressed its “profound gratitude to the people of Ghana for their massive show of support” towards the “historic street protest”.

“We particularly thank the Ghana Police Service for their professionalism during the street protest, the media for their extensive coverage, the civil society, artisanal groups and other political parties for their impressive participation.

“The NPP once again reiterate our call on the government to be more responsible, and show leadership in solving this unending power crisis which has caused severe economic hardship on the of lives our people,” the statement signed by General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong said.
