KKD's alleged rape victim was a virgin - Prosecution

It emerged in Court on Wednesday February 18, that the alleged victim of a rape case involving entertainment icon Kwesi Kyei-Darkwa (KKD), was a virgin.

This was revealed by the Prosecution. The Kaneshie District Court as a result committed the ace broadcaster to stand trial for rape at the High Court.

The first appearance for the broadcaster is on March, 18, 2015. Her Worship, Adjoa Akyaama Ofosu in her preliminary submission sought to find out whether, KKD had been served with a bill of indictment and summary of evidence.

KKD affirmed that his outfit had received the said documents. The trial judge therefore requested the State Prosecutor, Malike Woanya, to spell out before the court the content of the summary of evidence.

State Prosecutor Malike Woanya indicated that the complainant, Ewuraefe Orleans Thompson was a virgin but was forcibly raped by KKD.

Malike Woanya told the court that a medical report revealed that Orleans Thompson, was bleeding right after she was raped at a washroom of the African Regent Hotel by KKD.

He added that Orleans Thompson was formerly not sexually active.

State Prosecutor, Malike Woanya, stated that her outfit has sufficient evidence and prayed that KKD be committed to trial at the High Court.

The Defense Team led by Anthony Forson in his opening submission pleaded with the court, not to make a determination that will commit KKD to trial.

Lawyer Anthony Forson drew the attention of the court to the fact that the complainant had earlier written to withdraw the case from court and prayed for stay of proceedings.

But, the trial Judge, Her Worship Adjoa Akyaama Ofosu noted that the duty of the Magistrate Court is not to determine whether a prima facie case has been established.

She subsequently referred the matter to the High Court after KKD decided not to make any further comment. The defense team promised to call before the High Court the medical expert, arresting officer and one Benny Blanko as witnesses.

KKD will reappear at the High Court on March, 18, 2015. KKD has pleaded not guilty to the charge for having unlawful carnal knowledge of Ewuraefe Orleans Thompson.
