Let’s pray for Black Stars’ victory - Mahama

President John Mahama has urged Churches in Ghana to pray for victory for the Black Stars as the Senior national football team play Ivory Coast Sunday February 8, in the final game of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.

The Stars face the Elephants, in a replay of the Senegal 1992 final in which the Elephants won through penalty kicks.

It was the last time the Elephants won a continental trophy despite a golden generation of brilliant players.

The Ivoirians are keen to end their trophy famine and have an equally unwavering Ghana team to crack. Ghana is also determined to end their 33-year-trophy drought.

Pundits say the game will be a tough one for either side. Speaking at the annual convention of the Saviour Church of Ghana at Akyejm Osiem in the Eastern region on Saturday February 7, President Mahama said the Stars made it to the finals despite huge supporter skepticism and apathy.

He said the Stars can beat their Ivorian rivals if Churches in Ghana intervened for them spiritually.
