Sam Johnson: “Waris must not rush to leave Trabzonspor”

Ex-Black Stars and Fenerbahce defender Sam “Foyoo” Johnson insists striker Abdul Majeed Waris must not rush to leave Trabzonspor for another club if he foresees greater prospects for his career at the Turkey-based side.

Trabzonspor has received offers from French club SC Lille and two English clubs including Stoke City for the 23-year-old, but are yet to decide on which deal is suitable at the end of the season in June.

After spending 8 years in Turkey playing club football between 1998 and 2006, Johnson explains Trabzonspor could prove to be the most appropriate club for Waris for the next few seasons.

“Turkey is a good place to play football because there are no racism or discrimination problems so to me, if he is doing well there and thinks he can have a great future there, then I don’t think he has to move,” Johnson told DailySoccerGhana.com.

“But in Africa, it’s all about the money so if he is moving from Turkey to another country, he has to check what his future will be like there,” the 41-year-old added.

Waris, who is still recovering from an injury, has found the back of the net four times and provided two assists in 17 appearances for Trabzonspor this season.
