Nyantakyi: “Black Stars players are not playing for money"

Ghana FA Boss Kwesi Nyantakyi has revealed that the Black Stars led by Captain Asamoah Gyan initially refused to accept the $5,000 bonus package during a meeting last week ahead of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

The player-management talks had become necessary to communicate the government’s decision to slash the bonus package of the senior national team for the Equatorial Guinea 2015 tournament by 50%.

“The players met us and in our discussions, they stated that if this is the amount you want to pay us for each game at the AFCON, then you can keep your money,” Nyantakyi told Accra-based radio station Montie 100.1FM.

“The players are committed. They are not playing for the Black Stars because of money, but government has to pay them something for serving the nation so we will reach an agreement with them before they leave for Spain,” the CAF Executive Committee member added.

Nyantakyi also confirmed that the 23 available Black Stars players will train at the Dansoman Carl Reindorf Park on Saturday.
