24/7 water supply for Accra residents ‘by Christmas’

The Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, Alhaji Collins Dauda, has assured residents of Accra and Tema that “by the end of the year” 40 million gallons of water will be added to the current production capacity, from the completion of the Kpong Water Treatment Plant.

The Plant, he says, is near completion.

“We are doing the test run of the equipment.”

Alhaji Dauda was speaking on TV3 regarding the provisions made by government in the 2015 budget statement to boost water supply.

He said the Kpong plant – which was funded by the government at $273 million – will soon be commissioned for residents in Accra and Tema.

“That is going to add to the production for Accra and Tema and so because these interventions are all getting ready by the end of the year, I will say that the investment that we made have started bearing fruit.”

He said residents of Teshie, for instance, “must be happy with government” since they “are going to get water 24/7” after the commissioning of the project in December.

“So it is in this respect that I think that this budget gives hope to the people and also provides very bright future.”
