Ministry of Power: We’re not too bothered – AGI

The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) is calling for pragmatic solution to the country’s energy crisis, indicating that it is not too bothered about the administrative changes being effected.

The Association said it is ready to partner government to resolve the challenges in the sector.

President John Dramani Mahama last week named a new head for the country’s energy distribution company, Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), and announced the establishment of a new ministry, Ministry of Power, to tackle the challenges confronting the energy sector.

Speaking on TV3’s Business Focus on Monday, November 24, President of AGI James Asare-Adjei said the challenges are “really affecting every aspect of industry life.”

“If creation of a power ministry is to give more attention, then AGI welcomes that.”

The Minister of Power will be Dr Kwabena Donkor, the Member of Parliament for Pru East Constituency and Chairman of Parliament’s Committee on Energy.

"When approved by Parliament, the new Minister will be expected to mobilize all human and material resources available to resolve the current challenges facing the power sector," the statement announcing Dr Donkor's nomination said.

“The problem we are facing is [lack of] adequate [power] generation,” Mr Asare-Adjei pointed out, adding that “what we want to see as industry players is pragmatic solution.”
