I want to follow Derek Boateng’s footsteps at Getafe - Sarpong

Ghana teenager Edward Sarpong is hoping to follow the footsteps of Derek Boateng at Getafe. The 17-year-old Getafe Under-18 left-back insists he is eager to establish himself at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez. Former Black Stars midfielder Boateng spent two seasons with The Deep Blues between 2009-2011.

“It’s amazing to be here. It’s a dream come true looking at where I come from,” Sarpong told Goal Ghana. “I thank my manager Ernest Kufuor, the owner of Unistar Soccer Academy and my family for their support; I'm here to make them proud.”

“I want to follow the footsteps of Derek Boateng because his time here with Getafe was fantastic. Everyone says nice things about him, he was a very important player here and I’m eager to establish myself just like he did during his two years with the club.”

Sarpong added: “As a young player coming up, you don’t rest until you reach your limit and I’m not prepared to rest. I’m working hard to be in the first team and I want to be part by the end of the season, that is my main aim and also represent the Ghana national U-20 team if God permits.”

Sarpong joined Getafe from Ghanaian side UniStar Soccer Academy a few months ago.
