Frank Acheampong gutted by Arsenal defeat

Frank Acheampong is bemused with the manner in which they lost last night’s Uefa Champions League match against Arsenal.

Acheampong played the full duration for RSC Anderlecht as they succumbed to the might of Arsenal 1-2 in a game played at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium. Missing a clutch of players and forced to field third-choice goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, Arsenal struggled to make an impression in a low-key first half in Brussels.

The tempo increased after the restart and the better chances continued falling to the Gunners, yet the hosts always looked a menace on the break and struck when Andy Najar headed in from a Dennis Praet cross.

That seemed sufficient until Gibbs and Podolski grabbed the equalizer and the match winner in the 89th and 90th minutes respectively.

“We shouldn’t have lost this game, because we played better and we had it in our power to kill it off in the first half”, Acheampong told reporters after the match last night.

“This was a great chance to bounce back into the race to qualify, but we blew it. But we are not giving up, because there are three more matches to play in the group so we will wait and see what happens.”
