C/R cocoa farmers commend government

The Central Regional Cocoa Farmers of the Cocoa-Coffee-Shea Association has commended the government for increasing the price of cocoa per tonnage from 3,392.00 Ghana Cedis to 5,520 Ghana Cedis representing 62.74 percent rise.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Central Regional Cocoa Chief Farmer, Nana Kwesi Ofori.

They said the government had demonstrated a high level of responsibility and purpose by ensuring that the Cocoa-Coffee-Shea Nut farmers had their share of the national cake.

The statement the increase had boosted their morale and pledged their unflinching support for the government and they would work with the government to sustain the cocoa industry.

It said as the government had reduced its share of the 2013/2014 cocoa export duty in order to raise the producer price paid to the farmers and all other interventions such as the mass spraying and fertilizer application programme to increase the earnings of farmers to enhance their welfare would be well appreciated.

The statement appealed to the farmers to be vigilant to prevent cheating by Licensed Buying Companies (LBC) and to insist that the test weighing stones are used to weigh their products.

He advised them to report to his office any LBC Clerk who would refuses to use the approved weighing scale.
