No student sacked from Labone SHS – Edu. Ministry

Not a single student has been sacked from Labone Senior High School for poor performance, the Education Ministry has said.

Public Relations Officer Paul Krampah told STARR NEWS Thursday that contrary to reports that 250 students were booted out for poor performance, all of them remain students of the same school.

“The information I have is that none of the students have been dismissed”, Krampah said.

The Daily Graphic newspaper reported Thursday that the students were sacked for their abysmal performance in the end-of-year examination in July, this year.

According to the national daily, the students, who had an average of four failures in eight subjects, were sent packing when the first term of the 2014/2015 academic year began.

It reported that: “Out of the number sacked, 155 of them were second-year students who were supposed to go to Form Three, while 95 were first-year students entering their second year”.

The paper also said 171 students who had an average of three failures in the examination have been asked to repeat their forms.

The Headmistress of the school, Mrs Mary Amankwah, according to the state-owned paper, was in line with the school’s policy agreed upon by both the students and their parents at the time of their admission.

However, Krampah said in an interview with STARR NEWS that all the students are still in school.
