Asantehene urges Black Stars to stop chasing the money

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei tutu II, has told the Black Stars not to make money their main motivation whilst playing for Ghana as they earn a living while playing for their clubs abroad.

The king of the Ashantis urged the players to put monetary considerations aside whenever they wear the national jersey; and consider it as national service.

The occasion was when the Black Stars paid a courtesy call on Otumfuo at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Thursday.

The senior national team and Ghana FA members were at the palace to seek Otumfuo’s blessing ahead of their clash with Uganda.

The Ashanti King also charged government and the Black Stars Management Committee to respect and fulfi every agreement it reaches with the Black Stars.

He described Ghana’s elimination at the group stage of the 2014 Mundial as a painful experience, but urged the players to put the Brazil fiasco behind them and redeem themselves in future games.

He said it was important that the Black Stars took serious lessons out of the Brazil debacle to help them return to winning ways, immediately.

The Asantehene said since the Black Stars players were professionals they should take their football careers serious.

GFA President, Kwesi Nyantakyi thanked the Asantehene for his wise counsel and constant support to the Black Stars.

Black Stars Skipper, Asamoah Gyan, said the Black Stars had learnt vital lessons from the Brazil failure, and this would help them in their respective careers.
