Mahama calls for documentation of life experiences

President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday appealed to Ghanaians to publish their life experiences to inspire coming generations.

He said most people do not know enough about Ghana and the cultural heritage because people had not documented them.

President Mahama made the appeal when he launched a book entitled:"The Destiny of a Horse Boy" authored by Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, a Lawyer and Presidential candidate of Social Democratic Front in the 1979 General election.

The President also used the occasion to launch Ibrahim Mahama Foundation, which would among other functions work towards the eradication of poverty, illiteracy, ignorance and indiscipline.

The Foundation would also instill the values of humility, truthfulness, Justice and accountability in the youth of Northern Region.

The foundation has also instituted three prestigious awards for excellence and leadership in honour of the Alma Mater of the Author of the book namely; Ibrahim Mahama prize for excellence, University of Ghana- Legon, Ibrahim prize for excellence, Ghana School of Law- Accra and Ibrahim Mahama prize for excellence, Tamale Senior High School- Tamale.

President Mahama challenged Ghanaians with humble beginnings to document their youthful challenges and how they were able to overcome them.

He said perseverance is key in undertaking such documentation since there are frustrations and obstacles in every venture; adding, "Your life and destiny is in your own hands and you have to fight to take the chances in your hands."

President Mahama commended the Author for inputting a lot of virtues and good cultural practices that could be contributory to the development of the Northern Region and the entire country.

The President said it is unacceptable to ignore the education of children in the 21st century and urged parents to be wary of the educational needs of their children to bring out the best out of them.

Professor Abudulai Salifu, Director General of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, who was the Guest Speaker commended Mr. Mahama for his contribution towards education and the development of Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions.

He appealed to government to revive the cotton industry in the north that is nose-diving, explaining that in the era of dwindling commercial fortunes there is the need for government to harness all the business potentials to create job opportunities and growth poles.

President Mahama bought the first auctioned copy of the book for Ghc5,000.00.
