Sports Ministry should share resources equally - CHEM

The Centre for Human Empowerment (CHEM), a youth-centred organisation, has called on the Ministry of Youth and Sports to share its resources equally among the various sports disciplines under the ministry.

It said by so doing, the government stands in a good position to create jobs and employment through sports and youth development.

The CHEM made the call in a statement signed by Mr Issah Ali, Communication Director of the organisation and copied to Ghana News Agency.

It said: “As we share the sentiments of Ghanaians on football, resources should equally be shared to the youth-focused programmes and other sports disciplines.

“The ministry is being seen as a Black Stars or football ministry rather than a ministry mandated to champion broader government policies and programmes on youth and sports in general.”

The statement commended President John Dramani Mahama for reassigning Mr Mahama Ayariga to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, adding: “His reassignment to the ministry at this very time is very critical and of great interest to Ghanaians particularly the youth.”

They urged Mr Ayariga to fast-track the passage of the GYEEDA law to bring sanity in the operations of the Centre and put smiles on the faces of the youth of the country.

Mr Ayariga is a Member of Parliament for Bawku Central in the Upper East Region. He was appointed Spokesperson in 2009 in the regime of the late President John Evans Mills and later became the Deputy Minister of Education.

After the 2012 election, President Mahama appointed Mr Ayariga as the Minister of Information.

The CHEM appealed to Ghanaians, more especially, the youth and sports enthusiast to support the Minister to succeed in his endeavours at the Youth and Sports Ministry.
