Grasscutter farmers appeal for support

Mr Kwame Ampim, the Chairman of the Eastern Regional Grasscutter Farmers Association, has appealed to the youth to take up grasscutter farming.

Speaking to the GNA in an interview Mr Ampim said grasscutter rearing was lucrative but it had not got support from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture.

Mr. Ampim said grasscutter farming required dedication, sacrifice, seriousness and investment of capital due to its scientific nature. He said grasscutter was in high demand but the farmers could not meet the demand.

Mr Ampim said though grasscutter rearing was lucrative lack of knowledge of how best to increase productivity, the high cost of housing cages and the prices of young grasscutters for breeding could frustrate any new investor in the business.
