John Mensah to sell mansion to compensate ex-wife

Ghana defender John Mensah has been ordered by an Accra High Court to sell his plush mansion at the affluent Trassaco Valley Estates and other properties to pay for his divorce compensation.

According to the state-owned Graphic Sports, this is a fall-out from an agreement reached by the court following a divorce suit filed by his ex-wife Henrietta last October.

Proceeds from the sale of the house are to be shared equally between the couple. Mensah, married to Henrietta for the past 12 years with four children, was accused of cheating and shirking his responsibilities.

The former Sunderland star claimed those allegations were baseless. Since their marriage was under Ordinance, they are required to share equally all the properties acquired by them during the period of their marriage.

They have houses and plots of land in and around Accra, a beverage factory on the Kasoa-Bawjiase road and cars.

Mensah has been tasked to commit a fixed monthly remittance for the upkeep of the children.

The Graphic Sports also claim the initial US$ 500,000 alimony demanded by Henrietta has been beaten down to Ghc150,000.

Mensah is set to return to action after signing a loan deal with Slovakian top-flight side FC Nitra in a move expected to boost his chances of playing at the 2014 World Cup.

Last month, ex-Ghana striker Arthur Moses, was also ordered by a Supreme Court ruling that he give his divorced wife three more houses as part of their divorce settlement.

His divorced wife claimed she deserved the compensation package because Moses prevented her from working during his playing time.
