Sir John: Akufo-Addo will be President in 2016 come what may

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will be the President of Ghana in 2016, come what may, vows the party’s General Secretary.

Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie said on Saturday that: “Even if 10 presidential candidates stood for the 2016 election, only Akufo-Addo will be President”.

Sir John, as Owusu Afriyie is popularly known, said the means by which the party intends using to ensure that Nana Akufo-Addo wins the 2016 presidential election is known only to the NPP.

He had earlier told Radio XYZ on Thursday that the door for the party’s presidential race for 2016 was closed to other contestants, except Nana Akufo-Addo.

“I have said that I believe that Nana Akufo-Addo will be an excellent President in 2016 and I think that I stand by that. That is not to say that the door is locked or shut against those who may be interested in future in 2020 or 2024”.

Sir John vowed his unflinching support for the twice-defeated presidential candidate a few months ago, and said Nana Akufo-Addo will go for a third attempt even if he were confined to a wheelchair.

His blatant bias for the former Attorney General angered some potential aspirants in the party, especially Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, who openly disagreed with the General Secretary and urged him to be fair in his pronouncements in relation to the internal contest.

Former aspirant Alan Kyeremanten, on Wednesday also told XYZ News that his interest in contesting the flagbearership slot has not withered.

Speaking on Accra-based Asempa FM on Saturday, Sir John said he will not tolerate the possibility of any other person becoming President in 2016 except Nana Akufo-Addo.
