Tsatsu, Ahwoi’s are mafias within Mahama’s gov’t - Kofi Wayo

Founder and Leader of the United Renaissance Party (URP), Charles Kofi Wayo has blamed the erratic power supply and the difficulty in generating efficient electricity supply for the country on Messers Tsatsu Tsikata and the Ahwoi’s, describing them as the “mafias” within the administration of President John Dramani Mahama.

The Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Mr. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, has said government cannot afford to slip in its bid to increase the energy generation capacity in view of the increasing demand of power consumers.

He said the demand for electricity was growing by 10 percent annually, and that government’s target of increasing the country's energy capacity by 500 megawatts this year was on course due to the expected 400 megawatts from the Bui Dam project and 12 percent from the Kpong plant.

But the outspoken one-time business magnate, however, claims there are “mafias” within the NDC government who have hijacked the industry and their incompetence over the years in the sector have led to the country’s current predicament.

“…I know John Mahama is going to act sooner or later because he cannot tolerate the sufferings of Ghanaians…..there are mafias who run the show; they will resist anything and so this is a matter of fighting them to come up with good strategy…The mafias are Tsatsu Tsikata and the Ahwoi’s; they run the energy sector under Mahama’s government and they have been doing that for a long time. They control it, but they don’t know anything about it; all they do is, a white man tells them to do this and do that (and they rushed to implement it),” he pontificated.

Speaking to the challenges confronting the Energy ministry in generating more capacity, the political maverick, on a segment dubbed “Common Sense” on Okay Fms “Ekwanso Dwodwoo” program, tongue-lashed those at the helm of affairs at the sector.

“….the leaders at the helm of affairs at the Energy Sector are doing nothing except taking allowances and travelling on first class business flight whenever they sit in meetings; it is surprising that over 50 years, we still have a reason to complain about erratic power supply without backup systems….our major problem in the Energy Sector is incompetence and the unfortunate thing is that in Ghana, they will get away with this because they won’t sack them,” he asserted.
